THE CHURCH AT TRACE CROSSING: OUR NAME

About the Trace Crossing Name
The name “The Church at Trace Crossing” bears both geographical significance, as well as spiritual significance. Geographically, the church is located in Tupelo, MS, the headquarters for the 444-mile Natchez Trace Parkway. The Natchez Trace is a historical trading route that has been used literally for thousands of years first by Native Americans, then later by the Spanish, English, American settlers, slaves, soldiers, and traders. It now exists as a national parkway in the National Park system. “The Trace”, as it is known in Tupelo, crosses the three main highways of Tupelo within a three-mile radius. This is where The Church at Trace Crossing draws their name geographically; from the place where the Trace crosses their community.

Spiritually, however, the name represents the fact that just as The Trace is an ancient road, thousands of years old and traveled by all types of people, making its way through our modern world, so too the church is called to be “an ancient road in a modern world”. The message of redemptive grace is thousands of years old and is as present and relevant to our world today as it was when it first unfolded. So in a spiritual sense, The Church at Trace Crossing seeks to be a faith family who walks that ancient, enduring road within the context of our modern world, much like the road that cuts its way through our town.
