A Product of His Passion

When Was It Written
On April 1, 2007, Trace Crossing stared at its first ever Passion Week as a faith family. Easter was 7 days away, and Kevin Wood took the opportunity to recount the days Christ faced leading up to the cross.

A PRODUCT OF HIS PASSION
This week some 1,974 years ago (give or take a few), Jesus entered his last week of life on Earth. What an incredible 33 year journey it had been. It began in a stable, surrounded by shepherds and livestock, and two young parents not quite sure what the future held. It would end on a cross with only his mother and a few friends there to see him out.

For 33 years Jesus walked this earth, breathed this air, and tasted everything this life had to offer – well almost everything. And as he entered the gates of Jerusalem on the first day of the week, the people welcomed him like a conquering hero. But their welcome didn’t last long. For whatever reason, the people who welcomed him on Monday turned on him by Friday. The most difficult week in the life of Jesus began with a whole city embracing him. The most difficult week in the life of Jesus ended with a handful of friends embalming him.

Simply put, Passion week was a study in contrast.

On Monday they cheered him. On Friday they jeered him.
On Monday they smiled. On Friday they snarled.
On Monday they clapped their hands in excitement. On Friday, those same hands formed index fingers of accusation and execution.
On Monday, Jesus rode into town slow and easy on the back of a little brown donkey. On Friday, Jesus was ridden out of town with the weight of a heavy brown cross crushing his back, shoved by soldiers and crushed by crowds.
On Monday his disciples reveled in all the attention. On Friday, they were no where to be found.

And perhaps this week of ups and downs was the one week where Jesus learned to most identify with man. Because for one solid week, Jesus learned what it meant to go from beloved to betrayed. He learned that deep down inside the heart of every man is the willingness to rebel. Of course he already knew this. But during Passion week he experienced it at a whole new level. So, this week, as we remember everything he experienced, let’s be committed to celebrating Christ all week long. On Monday, let’s welcome him into our week with arms wide open. And then as each day goes by let’s keep it the same. And when Friday comes, let’s be thankful that the way Christ treats us is in now way related to the way we treat him, or the way he was treated while walking this earth. Let’s make it our passion to relive his passion.
